Anonymity Letter to Media PROFESSIONALS Information For Professionals Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.) may be able to help your clients that suffer from a drinking problem. Many judges, attorneys and family practitioners have found help for problem drinkers through A.A. The A.A. program of recovery has been successful in arresting problem drinking for 70 years. While there is some controversy concerning the disease concept of alcoholism, the A.A. program has been successful for those people that have a desire to stop drinking. A.A. is usually limited to those who are willing to admit that they are alcoholic. However, many do not realize that they are an alcoholic until they hear the stories of some of the people that are recovering through the A.A. program. Because of the social stigma of the term alcoholic, it is best to allow your client to decide if they are one. This is best accomplished by having your client contact a recovering alcoholic through our answering service at 636-239-0855. The answering service will have a recovering alcoholic of the same sex contact your client. These contacts are on a first name basis to protect the client's anonymity. If the client wishes they can be directed to an open A.A. meeting found in the AA Directory link . It is suggested that they attend only open meetings until they feel that they want to stop drinking and are willing to admit that they are an alcoholic. They will be made to feel welcome and that someone cares about their problems. They will be ask only for their first name during the meeting. If you would like additional information or your professional group would like to hear more about A.A., contact the A.A.
